hi
I updated my internet exporer to the latest version.
Since then I can't logon to my ftp.
Before.
I would enter my user name and password,
It would work.
Now it does not.
This is the message I receive.
"FTP root at mywebsite.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
Can you help

What happens when you follow the 'click Page & Open in Windows Explorer' instructions?

Hi smah !
That sentence is not very clear to me.
What I did was open a new page and type in my ftp address.
Then I get the same message.
Like this.

"FTP root at mysite.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

I think I have to change the browwser setting.
But how do I do that.

When you get that message, click the IE Page icon (between the print button and Tools button) in the IE toolbar. In the Page menu, you'll find "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer". Once you click that, a Windows Exporer window will open where you'll do File, Login As.... as before.

Hi smah !
Now i figured out what they mean
"click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
And I did exactly that.
Nothing changes.
I click "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer"
The page stays as is.
Thanks
Thanks

A Windows Explorer window doesn't open? Check Internet Options, Advanced tab, Browsing Section. Make sure "Enable FTP Folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" is checked.

Hi Smah

"Enable FTP Folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" is checked.
Thanks

Hi Smah.
I another message pops up with this message.
.............
The folder 'ftp://mysite.com/" is read-only because the proxy server is not set up to allow
full access.

To move, paste, rename,or delete files ,you must use a different proxy. For information on
changing your proxy,contact your administrator
...............
What a mess I am in.
Thanks

So, when you select "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer", a Windows Explore window does not open? Is it possible that you have some pop-up blocker or other security software that is preventing Windows Exporer from being opened by IE?

Another window does open with the older version of explorer.
But i am getting this message

.........
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

For offline users

You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages.
To view subscribed feeds

Click the Favorites Center button , click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view.

To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages)

Click Tools , and then click Work Offline.
Click the Favorites Center button , click History, and then click the page you want to view.

.........
then that message appears that I posted just previously

I missed the part about the proxy server earlier. That error sounds to me like the FTP server is behind a proxy server & there's some configuration problem. I don't know why you'd get that message now, if the proxy server has been in place all along. Or is your computer now behind a proxy server?

When you "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer, it's really Windows Explorer even though the title bar says Internet Explorer.

Hi Smah !

I tried that
It went to theis address automaticlly
res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm#ftp://mysite.com/

When I typed in
ftp://mysite.com/
I got this message
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Thanks

This method does take a few more clicks and seems more complicated than with previous versions of IE. So, in the end, my suggestion is that if you want to use ftp, just open Windows Explorer directly (using My Computer or whatever is convienient) and type in the ftp address without even bothering with IE. If you use IE, you just end up back at Windows Explorer anyway.

I had been doing my ftp uploading this way for mor than 5 years.

It is just now that this problem has started.
When I click ""Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer
A new explorer window does open

This is a DNS error saying that that name can not be resolved. This is probably related to the proxy server error that you mentioned earlier. Be sure that the address you're using is correct - possibly ftp://ftp.mysite.com. Are you behind a proxy server? If not, make sure that there's nothing checked in IE's Internet Options, Connections tab, Lan Settings button. Have you tried accessing a different FTP server, such as Microsoft's ftp://ftp.microsoft.com

Hi Smah !
Your suggestion of going to my computer was perfect.
I appreciate it
Take care

Hi Smah !
I was so happy yesterday that i was able to go into my ftp addres.
Today it is a repeat of the same problem.
I can't go into my ftp
I am so angry at this explorer.
Thanks
