I'M INSTALLING A 6X16 FOR A PANASONIC. THEY ARE USING A DOOR INTERCOM AT THE FRONT DOOR. CAN I USE THE EXISTING DOOR INTERCOM AND PUNCH IT AS A REGULAR STATION? THANKS

I don't have much experience with panasonic, but I would assume the door phone is analog. You'll need an ata to convert the digital port from the system.

Nortel makes a pretty decent digital door phone, though I don't recall wheather it's compatible with a 6x16. If they're using it to unlock / buzz in customers at the front door, this may be a better option.

What make/model of door phone is it?

The ones that we always put in are made by Valcom. These are terminated on a trunk port as an incoming trunk. Then you assign the trunk to appear and ring on certain phones and label the button as "Door". When someone presses a button, the unit generates ring tone and waits for someone to access the line. When it senses that the call is answered, it provides talk battery to allow 2-way conversation.

Ok, first of all, are you installing a Panasonic 6/16 key system or a Norstar 6/16 system?

Secondly, is the existing door unit just an analog device or is it a Panasonic or Norstar product?
