Interbase Performance

I have an issue with our server pegging from time to time. I have Interbase 5.6. I'm not sure if it is a bad query or process. Does anyone here know of any tools available to monitor logins and their activities so that I can pinpoint the problem.

What do you mean - "pegging" - getting slow? Can you send the "gfix" statistics for transaction counters (Check the "operations guide" for information). It might indicate a problem there... Martijn Tonies

Sorry, "pegging" meaning the cpu usage is at 100% in the performance monitor on NT and "getting slow". I have ibreplicator pulling data on another server, I have a telephony system and a web based reporting tool running queries, and 150 clients doing updates and inserts.

To trace what is causing the cpu to peg is seemingly impossible. I have turned off one thing at a time to see but it does not seem to pin point the problem.

I was wondering if you knew of any utilities or tools to see which user is using up the cpu. Services only shows ibserver as the culprit.

Hi,

No, you cannot see what seperate users/connections are doing with your IB server...

Version 7 (just announced at borland.com) is able to do this - perhaps it's time to upgrade?

I have a similar problem with the performance of Interbase 6.5. I repeatedly (every 3 seconds) start and commit a transaction. Every transaction creates about 100 records and updates about 40. The performance of the Interbase degradates with time. After having commited over 700 transactions, the system is effectively dead. Interbase consumes 100% of the CPU time.
I have a regular desktop PC with Windows 2000, 128 MB, Pentium 3. The database was initially empty.

If you have any idea about what is the possible cause of the problem, please let me know.

What are your transaction statistics? Use gfix to check them...
