Is there any practical, performance, flexibility (other than running older 32 bit legacy systems) or system security benefits in installing this on a quad core system running Windows XP Pro 64 bit?

AFAIK, Intel VT is built into their processors, and supporting software, like VMWare, VirtualBox, Virtual-PC and the like, can support it to offer VT's benefits to their client-OS's. VT's main feature is to offer (much) improved performance when switching the actual CPU focus/activity between multiple active sessions.
