The situation that led to this problem was trying to enable the DMA on two Ultra ATA Hard drives (both on the Master IDE Channel) for some video capture software on a Windows 98SE machine.
I have uninstalled that pci device and the software.
it will boot into safe mode...I can then go to the device manager and remove the Intel(r) 82801AA Ultra ATA Controller. Then I reboot. When it reboots, it boots into normal windows...automatically finds the device driver again, then says to reboot. If I say no, windows itself seems to work ok...Once I reboot I get the windows protection error.
amidst all the things I have tried, frequently I get a fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0147:000007E59 upon attempting to reboot
any help in this manner would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to wipe everything out and start over....I have tried to reinstall windows over itself...although I don't like doing this...I made an exception...and it gained me noting.
I've tried restoring the registry to a day before this happened....didn't help.
Thanks,
Zoonkai
