Integrating a Cisco Unified Communication Manager 8.5 with Nortel

I am currently in the process of integrating a Cisco solution in with our existing Nortel environment. We have an Opt61 CS1000 Nortel with a PRI to a Cisco Voice Router to link the two systems. I am trying to figure out what type of signaling to use between the two. When we used NI2 we were able to make calls from Cisco to Nortel but not vice versa. When monitoring the Cisco device calls were not being presented from Nortel to it. We tried DMS 100 but cant get either system to talk to eachother. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You have to have the packages in the PBX for QSIG also

Ok I have moved it to qsig and made some progress. I can call Nortel phones from Cisco phones and I can call long distance out the PRI attached to the Nortel. I still cannot call Cisco phones from Nortel phones. If I dial the ACOD from a nortel phone I get dialtone and can then dial a cisco extension and it go through though. I am monitoring the Cisco router and cannot see where anything is hitting it when the nortel side tries to call.

Have you put the CDP entries in for the Cisco phones?

You have to build an RLI for the Nortel phones to be able to call the Cisco phones. Then you have to put the CDP entries in so the Nortel switch knows how to route the call to the Cisco.

nevermind I had the wrong route in the RLI ...everything seems to be working except major static. Hopefully its because we havent built out our QoS yet.

It almost sounds as if the volume between the two is very high and its causing a lot of distortion. Any ideas on what I could check? I made the Cisco handle the clocking because I was seeing a lot of slips but those are cleared up now.

If the Nortel has the PRI's in it from the local Telco then the Cisco should clock off the Nortel. Do you have a CSU in between the 2 devices or just a cable? What kind of card is in the Nortel?

We dont have a CSU just a cable. I belive the card is DUAL PRI - NT5D12AA RLS - 11

There are some dip switches on that card for line build out. Check them and make sure they are set for 0 LBO If the 2 devices are in close proximity to each other. Also check the programming in the Cisco if there is a setting in there. The circuit just may be to "HOT" and causing you issues.

We've checked the cabling and we've reduced the cable length to short. We are looking to see if there is a way we can lower the volume on the cisco side. We were able to get Ni2 to work yesterday but we couldn't make long distance calls, however we didnt have the quality issue. Now with Qsig we are able to make long distance, but with the voice quality issues. Here is a print out of the DCH, Trunks, and RDB if anyone possibly spots something I messed up on.

Fixed it .. we lowered the gain settings in Cisco and that fixed us.
