I have Backup Exec 8.5 for my Novell Netware 5.0 Version

Recently I have purchased a Linux Redhat 7.1 Server on which i have tried to installed a Unix Agent for Backup Exec and was succesfully installed.

But while running ./agent.be file following lines were appear on the screen

backup Exec Unix Agent Version 5.1
Using Configuration file agent.cfg
Agent Config. OK
Workstation Name : Backup
Backup exec agent ready to service requests

But i am not able to view this agent on my Backup Exec Server.

Secondly I have tried alternate Method I have configured my Windows'95 machine as agent in this case i am able to view my win'95 machine as agent but i am able to take backup properly.

I have mapped all my drives onto win'95 based agent and tried to take backup.

Backup Server starts initializing DAT tape and trying to take backup, but after few directories it is showing error message Like "Insufficient Previleges - Connection to Device(i.e. win'95 based machine) is lost.

And it will try to take backup of next mapped drive and gives the same error.

Can anyone help me out in taking perfect backup either from Win'95 based machine or from Linux server to Novell Server.

Sincerly,

You will need the multi-server version of Backup Exec, at least that is what we were told and it did work when we bought that version. Next you will need to make certain that you have full permission to make a backup on a remote server or station. You may have to create a user with root or administator permissions to do a back up.

Without purchasing veritas for multiserver, can we not take backup then what is the use of providing agent services alongwith the Backexec Software.

We couldn't. We had to purchase the upgrade.

I just had a similar problem, but in my case it was that the agent had to be updated. I had installed Version 5.1 revision 5.025 and never saw the server as being available on the backup server. This seems to be because the machine was dual-homed. The installer for Version 5.1 revision 5.030, which is descriptively named "nls_agnt_236717.tar" asks if the machine is dual-homed and adds the line :
force_address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
to the agent.cfg file. In my case it shouldn't have mattered since both interfaces should have routes to the backup server, but the agent advertisements didn't seem to be getting to the server. I just ran a sucessful backup

I have downloaded the tar file, but its documentation says to install the agent using FTP services, can anyone tell me how to install using FTP.

I have move tar file using ftp to linux server, but how to install is a QUESTION.

I have queried this to veritas people and they have responded that unix agent is not compatible to Linux 7 or linux 7.1.

Veritas will tell you that it's not SUPPORTED under Red Hat 7.x, but that doens't mean that it's not compatible. In order to install the agent, on the linux sever
tar -xvf nls_agnt_236717.tar
This will expand the files into the local directory. Then execute (as root)
./INSTALL
this will walk you through the process of installing all of the files needed and the configuration of them. I installed it on two different RedHat 7.1 servers and it's working fine on both of them.

As i have written in my first thread that i have tried to installed linux backup agent, but i am not able to view the agent on the backup exec server.

I went to the veritas, where i found the tar file in their documentation they have written linux agent must be installed using FTP on agent server.
