Whwnever I try to connect to my database using the Connect / as sysdba, the error message Insufficient privileges is displayed. This happens despite the fact that I am a member of the Ora_dba group

Any help with this problem will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

If you are using Win OS, and using a Command prompt to start the sqlplus, you need to set environment parameter in the cmd prompt first.

1) set ORACLE_SID=<your SID>
2) sqlplus /nolog

after go into sqlplus,
3) connect / as sysdba

then you can connect the local SID. But if you connect to remote DB, you did not need to do this.

markco, you need to check SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= You will find this parameter under Sqlnet.ora file located @
\oracle\ora90\network\ADMIN\
in if it is (NONE) change it to (NTS) in order to logon as OS authantication.
It only works with NT system.
