Hi,

One of our sales reps got the following error listed 3 times when he tried to sync once:

Insufficient disk space.

Context: appendFrom: c:\goldmine\Sync\WizProf\42771287\USER\In\Working\MailBox
C:\GoldMine\GMBase\MailBox

1: File: C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\INMEM000.REM

BDE Error Cat:Code: [37:3]
BDE: 500 [9/6/1998] GoldMine: 6.60.40707

User: USER
Window:
Template:
Details:
FILENAME: C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\INMEM000.REM

I know the INMEM000.REM file is a temporary file that is created and is supose to be deleted when its eithe done syncronizing or when you close goldmine. (the file is created by Borland Database Engine (BDE)).

the error happens on his laptop. The size of our database directory on the server is only 21MB.
The log file says everything went fine, but the user got the errors (on his side..).

I wonder if any one can give me some direction in how to solve this?

Thank you for Any help you can provide!!

My company is running 6.5 GMCE and we've run into this several times, I think mostly on LAN (non-remote) users. I believe the problem usually went away after either a reboot and/or running db maint. w/o a rebuild and pack.

I called our GoldMine Rep. and he said that the file size (space taken up) on the user's C:\ drive has reached a multiple of 4. I don't know how much space he was taking up, but it could have been exactly one of these: 4GB, 12GB, 16GB, etc.
Our GM Rep said it was a known bug in the database technology that GoldMine uses --Borland Database Engine (BDE).

The fix was to push the data size above or below the multiple of 4 file size mark. So, you could simply copy a file, make a new file, or what ever you like just as long as you push the current file size up or down by a few bytes.
-A reboot could fix it too.

fyi: Our user had other problems with his laptop and brought it in for a complete re-build, so, we ended up not trying to fix this GoldMine error.

it's not a matter of space taken up, it's a matter of FREE space. If your FREE SPACE is an increment of 4GB, you'll have trouble with sync and database maintenance.

And yes, for now, the solution is to eat up space or free it up and get yourself away from the 4 GB increments.. I suggest getting right in the middle as space is freed up and taken up during sync and maintenance and your free space will fluctuate accordingly. In other words, if you start maintenance and you have 3.99 GB free, you'll get started successfully, but after a few of the 32+ database files are packed you coudl find yourself with 4.0 GB of free space (or more) and maitenance on the next table will fail... So get it to 2 or 6 or 10 or 14 or 18, etc. GB. ;)

There is a fix by Rick Kelly for the 'multiple of 4GB' issue with the BDE.

Check out the below thread for the info, and a download that includes the DLL fix as well as the info on installing it.

It works.

Tested by many.

And the guy I posted it for over on the Paradox forum has already downloaded and installed.

And he couldn't have been nicer in saying how simple it was to put into place and start it working.

However, I've no hand in, nor should I receive any accolades for, this fix.

It all goes to Rick Kelly, and mayhap those who alpha/beta tested it to get things ironed out.

hey, you're spreading the word :)

Testing it today myself with GoldMine (which uses dBase and MSSQL native drivers)... Hopefully this fix wasn't a paradox-specific one...

It is a BDE-specific issue as far as I know.

Paradox doesn't actually have anything to do with this error. Other than that it uses the BDE.

It is a 'malfunction' of the BDE.

Excellent.. Shame this comes now just as GoldMine is moving away from the BDE for their upcoming version 7.. Regardless, people are out there using versions 4 through 6.7 and will definitely love this.

Thanks for spreading the good word! :)

Lol no sh*t.

But thanks Tony this is a great fix for every GoldMine user (over which there are reportedly over a million).

Richard.

There will soon be some 'updates' posted, and regular updates added, to the download of these files.

I believe the author of the BDE DLL editor is working on dll fix for past versions of the BDE.

They'll be posted on in the very near future, and the updates should also be posted there as the authors make them available.
