Hello People!

I have been updating phone firmware on LSP's running CM 5.X every since CM 5.X came out. Our "recent" LSP installs have been with CM 6.X, which I understand uses the Utility Service to control phone firmware. My assumption is that the Utility Service works like an HTTP server. However, that will remain an assumption, cause the only documentation Avaya has is for the Stand Alone Utility Service. Our Utility Service was installed as NON-standalone. The options available in a NON-standalone setup are vastly different than what is described in the Stand Alone Utility Service documentation--- most notably the "UPLOAD PHONE FIRMWARE" option. I can see what the current phone firmware is (view, unpack, activate, deactivate, remove) but not how to update it or load newer versions.

With 5.X, I used the WINSCP program and transferred the needed files into the TFTPBOOT folder. Reboot the phones and done. I can't get to the Utility Service with WINSCP. I get a "connection actively refused" dialog box. It there a way to make the Utility Service respond to the connection request, or is there another option for getting the new firmware on the Utility Server? What am I missing?

One final question, why isn't newer always easier??? [bigsmile]

I appreciate any help.

Hi ATI2ner,

The Utility server on the LSP, will hold the phone firmware. upload the firmware you need into the utility server using the browser. once in there unpack and activate it. there is also a drop down, to change from SIP to h.323, you will see what I mean.

Change DHCP scope option 242 HTTPSRVR and TLSSRVR IP address to be the Utility server address and reboot a phone to see if works.

Hi Wake85!

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to update the firmware for the phones. I have been all thru the Utility server with the browser login. There is no option to upload new firmware like the manual says. But again, the manual is only for the stand alone server. Can you please elaborate on how you "upload the firmware you need into the utility server using the browser." And also, which set of files do we download to use with the Utility Server? The TAR or the ZIP?

The DHCP scope already points to the Utility Server for both HTTP and TLS.

Upload files
Use a web browser to upload a file to the Utility Server. You can upload either single file or a zipped file. In both cases, the file is transferred from the web browser session to the /tmp directory on Utility Server. Other applications can use this directory as a temporary store for files.

Uploading telephone firmware to Utility Services

Procedure
1.Click Miscellaneous > Upload Files.
2.On the Upload File page, click Browse to locate the file.
3.Click Upload File to upload the file

Thanks again.

TAR or ZIP for phone firmware uploads?

I think when you download the firmware from Avaya they come in zip form anyway, but that's what I use. it says in the above thread you can use single file or zipped file.

hope that helps.

This worked. It is the ZIP file, and now it is listed as firmware that can be unpacked and activated. Thank you!

I am also attempting to add the screen saver PIC that we have used at the 5.X sites. Have not had it on the 6.X sites--- YET! Wish me luck!

Aww glad it worked :)

From what I remember you may be able to upload it in the same place?? That might not be true though. Have to have a look, and then just change your 46xxsettings file in the 'SET SCREENSAVER' bit, to be the image name.
