Hi,

I'm trying to install XV 3.10a on a SCO Unix machine. Every time I try to unzip the tar file using tar -xvf xv-3.10a it starts to run the process and then gives a "Directory Checksum Error" and I'm unable to proceed.

Can anyone offer me some insight as to what the problem may be?

Thanks.

The problem is that the file is corrupt.

Did you perhaps ftp this with Windows and forget to set binary mode? Tony Lawrence

Thanks, it appears I did forget to set the FTP mode to Bin. The trouble is now I get an error "i386ld fatal: Symbol Referencing errors" I am running Open Server 5.0.6 and found a patch that I assumed was supposed to fix this problem but no such luck Can anyone help with this problem/

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I'm sorry for sounding so dense but. I get lost on the skunkware site. I found one file called XV-3.10a-VOLS but I don't know if thats right and if it is how do I install it??? This is driving me nuts, I thought I had to compile it. I've been on this for a week now.

Thanks. Tim.

You download it (don't forget binary mode) and then put it anywhere you like- /tmp/ is fine. Untar it with

cd /tmp
tar xvf xv*tar

then run

custom
Choose Install Software->from this machine-> media images and give /tmp as the directory. That's it.

Except that it may install to /usr/local/bin and if it does then of course you need that in your PATH
