i recently bought a acer aspire notebook with a linux os inside the recovery cd. I bought a oem version of windows xp home and i wanted to install it instead of the linux os. I tried to install it and i found out that my hd is partitioned my drive d is unknown format and my drive c is fat32. i tried instaling the windows xp to drive d and a message appeared that i cant install it on drive d so i install it in drive c. my problem is that after installing windows i cant see deive d. how can i recover the lost drive? Thanks

During initial XP install you will have the option to delete all partitions then re-create as just one (if thats how you want it)
Note* You will obviously loose everything on the drive.
Also: you will need to have all the appropriate drivers downloaded once XP is installed ie: Video, Sound, Modem, Lan, Touchpad etc.

I bought a PC for my wife that came preloaded with Lindows. Hey for $149 you can't go wrong for a complete PC.

Even removing all partitions Windows XP would not load. I used Active@Killdisk to wipe the drive clean. I just did a simple one pass wipe. You can also use Darik's Boot and Nuke which is a free. You'll likely need to use something like that to wipe the drive clean. Good luck!
