Hello,

We are running a single forest with 4 windows 2003 sp1 domain controllers, what is the impact of installing R2 on a single DC? Is it recommended to install R2 on all DC's in the forest?

tried to find info on this on MS site...but nothing could be found.

thanks in advance!

I had 2 DCs running Win2k3 and Wink2k3 R2. One served primarily as my DC the other was a Terminal Server but a backup DC (which is essentially just another replication of DC). I had no probs.

I have 1 DC running R2 and 1 DC runing SP1 and its functioning fine. If you dont plan on using any of the features in the R2 release(branch office management, identity and access management, and storage management) you should be fine if its only on 1 DC. If you plan on using those features you should probably put it on all DCs. I do believe you need a new server license though, i dont think its a free upgrade, someone correct me if im wrong.

Almost sure that you need R2 license for each server that will be upgraded. It's mostly for management features, I used it for my Terminal Server/DC to manage printers.
