Installing window server 2008 1

Hello guyz

I need help.
I downloaded windows server 2008 RC1 for microsoft website.
For a while now I cannot install it.
I burnt it into a CD using NERO image.
When installing, i always get same error message, "setup cannot open D:\source\install.wim"

What could be wrong?

It could be either there is a problem with your image or how you burned it using NERO.
Try using the dvdburn command from the Windows 2003 Resource Kit, it works great

Did you try to burn another CD. I've had this problem before and changing the CDrom drive or burning another CD helped.

yes i had this couple of months back you need to check the size of the install.wdm i had to download it 4 times before it was the right size!! and ensure it copies fully to the cd in the iso image.

I tried using "dvdburn" command in Windows server 2003 Resource Kit but I had "error3 - could not open image"

Any suggestion on what image format to use is welcomed.

The downloaded file (Windows Server 2008) is an ISO.What program should I use to get the right image.

the .iso format is the correct format, sounds like you have a corrupted download

You can check your ISO image using a virtual CDROM or simply extract it with WinRAR. There is plenty of software for virtual CDROM. If you can not find something, download Microsoft Virtual PC (it’s free), install it (takes less than a minute), load the ISO image and install Windows Server 2008 on a virtual machine.

This is really absurd....
Used 3 different burners, 4 different softwares, 6 downloads
5 different brands of CDs. Same error as SIO3
How many thousands of hours does the public waste, per day, due to MS nonsense.

Did you try to extract the ISO with WinRAR or load it in VirtualPC/VMWare or Virtual CDRom?

All the downloads were within a day, re-dowloaded yesterday and now have 2008 running.

technome, pls be a little detailed. Is it the virtual machine you are runing server 2008?

though i have not tried that. took little break on it.

No this was just to get 2008 installed, not up to the virtual machine just yet.

Plz how did you setup the server 2008 using the downloaded .1so file?

I have downloaded this .iso file two more times but yet cannot run into a system successfully without encountering an error message.

I also tried loading the .iso into the virtual pc 2007 but yet got some error like 'addition for virtuial pc'

what extactly is wrong?

I burnt to a DVD at the lowest speed I could using Roxio ver 10 (newest ver),DVD -r disk.

Hi Guyz,
Many thnx for all your contributions.

Did a fresh download and burnt as image using roxio/9 creator.
There was no hasles at setting up.
