I am working on a compac, installing win98. The system locks up on the first run. on a step by step boot, it goes no further than msmouse.vxd
There are no driver conflicts in device manager whilke running in safe mode.
I have tried loading several times to no avail.

any ideas?

The solution was changing the installation disk.

Sorry, the setup went smooth as silk when I got a new install disk. *sigh*
without MS support. They will not give me a new disk either.

So get someone to burn you one.
Sorry that you just now found out about the support. It goes downhill from here. 98 is 3 generations back and 100 million later versions need help out there. Ed Fair
