I was wondring if anyone knew how to install windows 200 from a directory on C:. As I have a laptop with no viable means of using a CD, so all I can do is copy the I386 dir onto the drive in a nother pc.

Like you said, copy the CD i386 contents to a setup folder and run setup from there. Upon installation, skip the partition and format part of course. If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

eddie357,

presume you do have a floppy attached - otherwise you'll also need to make the hard drive bootable.

a, yes of course.
I did not mention it, but you need to format and partition it right before you run setup. And, like wolluf said, bootable. If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

If you have network cards, you can also connect through the network with a network boot disk and run winnt in the i386 from there. Bart's boot disk: is really cool. The hard drive will need to be partitioned and formatted first. Also, run smartdrv.exe c+ to cache your hard drive. It can cut the file copy time down by over an hour.

Thanks all
I got that far. but now, as I start the installation(using winnt.exe from a os boot up with a win ME disk.
I get an error
" could not load boot loader"
Ensure disk is formatted or not damaged etc...

I have formated unconditional it and fdisk /mbr incase.
The only thing I haven't done is fdisked the drive
aby idea's

Sorry, but we mentioned before that the disk needed to be formatted, partitioned, active AND bootable. The run setup from the HD, you do not need a floppy then. If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
