Hi,
I was running apache2.0 on my computer sometime ago. I had deleted the WIndows Server (IIS) sometime ago and wanted to try to use it now. I went through the process of
"control panel"=>"windows component and services"=>IIS and added IIS.
When I went to details however there was no option for HTTP server. I went ahead and installed the IIS. I then stopped the apache2.0 and tried to go to " thinking that it would take me to "Windows server" files located in C:/Inetpub/ but it cannot find localhost. Is there something I am doing wrong. I dont know how to check if the webserver is running too?
Any idea?

try reseting the password for user:IUSR_MACHINENAME in user account where MACHINENAME is your machine name.

go to: My Computer >>> right click >>> manage >>> users

then on a IUSR_MACHINENAME user right click and reset password.

cheers

hi,
i did reset the password for IUSR_MACHINENAME and restarted the computer. server still doesnt show when i go to the description for IUSR_MACHINENAME says that its "built-in account for anonymous access to IIS" but I am not getting anything. Is there anything else that I need to be aware of? Also what does resetting the password for IUSR_MACHINENAME supposed to do?
Thank you

Sometimes the problem is the localhost name. Try the IP address of the machine.

i tried to access by the local address: 127.0.0.1 in the browser but it doesnt work. When I log in to the computer and go to "Computer Management=>Local User and Groups=>Users=>IUSR_Machine Name" is the one which is allowed access to local server but the user I am logging in as doesnt have that permission.
What I am afraid of is that I have not installed the IIS properly all the way. I have followed the tutorial but I am not sure how to check if IIS is working.

thanks for the resource. The snag i am running into is that when I type inetmgr the screen containing opens but the IIS on the left column doesnt have the "plus" sign to open for more options. Also the "Action" bar at the top doesnt have the "IIS start" or "stop" button. I must not have installed the IIS correctly but it is confusing since i did follow the steps described in the msdn database. any idea?

What firewalling do you use on the machine where you are seeing this error?
