Installing using custom 2

I have some files that were downloaded on a system runnin Windows 98. I copied it to a disk and am trying to install it on a SCO Unix 3.2.4 system using th custom utility it say I have an invalid disk format any suggestions.

if the files are for your unix system and you just used windows to download them. Then you will have to do the following.

1) change to the tmp dir
2) use doscp afn)
3) use cpio or tar (whichever applies to extract it)
4) rename it to VOL.000.000
5) then you custom to install it from a media image.

That should take care of it for you.

SCO 3.2.4.x did NOT support media images. He has to dd the image to a floppy:


dd if=/tmp/image of=/dev/fd0135ds18 bs=18k

or if they are images, you could look on the web for a utility named rawwrite. It will write an image onto a floppy that is usable by custom. Ed Fair
