Hello,

I have an active/active (Server 2003/Exchange 2003) existing Exchange environment. Want to install Unity server. I am hoping someone can answer my questions.

1. Why does Cisco need another Exchange installation? Can't it just use the ESM?

2. The Cisco agent does everything right (interaction with AD and Exchange)?

Thanks,

BM

If you already have an Exchange infrastructure then you don't need to actually run Exchange on the Unity server, however it will still require it's own server.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking in yur second question. There are about seven or eight services that will run on the box that handle it's integration with the Exchange server and active directory as well as it's built in functions. You won't need to load any software onto your Exchange server, however there are active directory schema extensions that will need to be installed.

If I am not mistaken in order to use an existing Exchange Infrastructure you must purchase Unified Messaging for Unity.

Adman,
Ok, from what I read it says to bring up another Exchange server to handle the Unity users.

My second question? I read that unity has a Cisco agent that handles all communications. I should read the manual again.

So if I understand you correctly, I do not need another exchange server to implement unity. i just need to install the ESM, SQL, and Unity on my seperate server?

Can I ask you how you set up yours?

Thanks,

BM

That's just how we set ours up. Loaded Win2K, Exchange System Manager, MSDE SQL and then Unity. Dan is correct in saying that you would need a UM license to have Exchange off the Unity box.
