I have been trying to reintall Solaris 9 over the current Solaris 9 OS on my SUN Ultra 60. From what I understand using 'Stop A' gets you the 'ok' prompt. This is where I type 'boot cdrom - install -w'. -w since we do not have a SUN mouse laying around to use currently. Anyways, doing this should intall Solaris 9 over the current Solaris 9, right? Why am I installing Solaris over Solaris? For some reason the first time I installed it, we the file system was not mounted. To make this story a little shorter, the system would not let me install Solaris over Solaris. Any hints folks? Now, I do get to a window that shows when you want to continue with the installation. But we want to wipe the whole thing clean and pretty much start over. - So1ari5

Solari5,
Make sure you are using the Software Disk 1 of 2 and not the Installation disk. At the ok> prompt, enter command:

boot cdrom

You should be able to get around the GUI using just the keyboard tab key. I don't understand why the installation will not let you install over the existing installation. But, if it still gives you trouble you can do one of the following.

If you do not have any data on the disk that you need, you can boot to CD in single user (from the ok> prompt, enter command: "boot cdrom -s") and run the format command. Format the entire disk. Then restart the installation process using "boot cdrom".

If you know what partitions the OS is installed on, you can boot to single user mode and run newfs on those partitions.

bfitzmai,

Thank you for your help. Ok, onto the next issue. I have gone pretty far in the reinstallation of Solaris9. No I am at a point where the install asks me 'specify media' to install cd 2 0f 2. I want to use 'cd/dvd'. At the bottom, it gives me two options, 'Next' or 'skip'. I of course, after selecting my choice want to tab down to 'Next'. Here is where the problem is. I can not tab down or move down to 'Next' to go on. I have pretty much tried almost every button there is on the key board and many different combinations of the keys. How can I get past this to load cd 2. - Mike

I never had a reason to install disk 2 of 2. I looked at the contents of disk 2 and there are installer programs under each folder. If the install program doesn't let you select next, go ahead and skip the installation. You should be able to install the added features and tool manually. This may take some time but, I don't know what else to suggest.
