If I install any software on my XP Prof machine - no other users can see the newly installed software ie I have to install it under each local account to get all the menus/desktop icons etc.

It's gotta be something real simple - I just can't find it...

Any help would be *greatly* appreciated. Cheers!!

That should not happen with the latest XP-Aware software.
Are you using old versions? The solution is out there. [morning]

The 2 programs i'm having problems with are The Sims Deluxe edition and KaZaA.

Both install OK but not for other users. ie the menus/desktop icons are only installed for the administrator profile.

I can copy the menus/desktop icons as administrator to other user profiles but then security settings are not right for saving Sims data...

So I'm not sure if this an XP issue or one for Sims and KaZaA. I'm sure I had KaZaA installed for all users before...

Kazaa should work the way you did, with copying the files to All Users.
About Sims, I cannot answers, don't have it.
What you could do is check where Sims wants the data (the path). I don't know, but if there is an .INI file or a registry entry you can edit, you could point it to a shared location.
Make backups before you change anything !

Here is what I have to do for most software in order that it can be seen by all users.
1. Load software logged in as Administrator
2. Create a new, different admin account ie. localadmin
3. Log in as that user
4. Copy Administrator profile to Default User Profile
Right click My Computer and select properties
Click Advanced
In the User Profile section, click Settings
On the User Profile page, click yourcomputername\Administrator
Click copy to
In the Copy To Dialog box, type (or browse to) %system_drive%\documents and settings\default user
DO NOT CLICK OK YET!!
5. Grant permission to the local Everyone Group to use the default user profile
Click the Change button
In the Select User or Group dialog box, type Everyone in the Name box, then click OK
Click yes and then OK
Good luck.
