Got a brand new Sony VAIO with XP pre-installed for the MD.
Problem is, laptop hung during install. Now there is an error message when retrying the install saying that Firewall-1 needs to be uninstalled before Securemote Client can be installed, tried to uninstall through control panel, which said that Securemote hadn't completed install. Took out all referencies I could find for checkpoint, from the registry. Still saying Firewall-1 is installed.
Does anyone out there know what registry entries I need to remove ?, or in fact, if this problem is caused by XP's native Firewall ? - or anyway I could resolve this issue (at the moment, trashing the laptop & rebuilding seems the only option) - many thanks in advance

You may have a corrupted msi installer/uninstaller. You can update this from MS' website. I wiould also recommend downloading NG from Checkpoint, just to be sure that you have the latest and greatest.

I had some problems also with a laptop and ended up re-installing. Do not let MS determine your network and build it for you. I had a laptop that has both a built-in NIC, Wireless access, firewire and USB. When I started the laptop, I let XP perform my network configuration, I supplied minimal information. What happened...well a bridge was formed and it included my nic's plus my firewire. After several hours of tinkering, I was able to get the built-in nic to work, but not the wireless. I ended up re-installing.

I hope you can get around this problem.

I actually had this problem recently with one of my clients. After speaking with Checkpoint and MS is that the computer needed to be rebuilt. Not what I wanted to hear. I even tried deleting references in the registry etc. It is something with securclient. Also, updating to NG is great only if your firewall is NG. If not, then it won't work properly. Hi Guys
I got this problem a while back when I mad the mistake of trying to install the client from a network location, which promptly got disconnected when the Checkpoint network shim drivers are initiated, halfway throught the install <grrr>

Anyway ,you need to clear the Registry of all references to Checkpoint and SecureClient, but you also need to delete a few file in your systems directory which get left behind. If the Installer sees these files it will give the "Must Uninstall" Message.

My only problem is I cant tell you which files they are :( since this hasnt happened for a while ... sorry.

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies guys !
Managed to sort it out eventually, dropped back to Secureclient v4188 for win2k (after rebuilding the Laptop).
There was an odd quirk, with the install bleeting about file signing. This was hidden behind the client install screen, there were about 3 or 4 of them. after acknowledging the message boxes the install went through ok. Now working sweet as. Expecting that thankyou cheque from the MD any day now !
