My hard drive is about to fail. I bought a small 40 Gbyte Seagate internal hard drive to install as a second. I want to install it and transfer every thing over to it. I've read in my Andrews A+ guide that I can use my Windows XP disk to boot it up instead of doing the Fdisk thing. But there is no explanation anywhere of how to do this. Does anyone know what I might run into? How can I make sure it works?

Hi Violetta, I'm not an expert so I would get a confirmation from someone else before doing this but...

There is a freeware program on download.com called "copywipe". The reviews said you can use it to copy your hard drive to another one with everything still intact. Your OS and programs will still operate just as if on the original drive. Supposedly you can run this from the drive you are copying with no problems and the target drive does not need to be formated. It's suppose to let you upgrade to a larger drive without having to reinstall everything.

I have learned however that if your drive has read errors it may not copy.

Hope this helps but like I said, get confirmation from someone with more tech expertise before taking my word for it.
