i had electrical problems and my cable modem and internal ethernet adapter went to the moon ...
So my internal ethernet adapter is not working, i need to know how can i install a second ethernet adapter.

i have locked up several usb ethernet adapters but it seems not to be compatible to any Mac Os 9.x or X

My cable modem is a Scientific Atlanta DPX100 series Cable Modem, and has both ethernet and usb conection, but guess what, usb connection only works with pc.

so Anyone can give me a solution to my problem.
thanks

Lovalles,

It's a tough call. DLink used to have a USB-Ethernet adapter for Mac, but the last time I check it, they drop it off their "mac compatible" list.

I would suggest you to contact a online mac mail-order such as macconnection.com, macmall.com or maczone.com.
Search their web sites for USB Ethernet adapter. You'll find some products. Call them up to make sure that it will works on Mac (some of the product listed as pc and mac compatible, but call them up to make sure).

Good luck.

It ain't pretty, but... there are two solutions.

Get an Airport card and Airport card adapter (these are not currently
easy to locate). Your wireless network can then connect to any suitable
bridge (Apple's Airport Express for example) and from that bridge, to
ethernet.

Get the iMac DV repaired (Apple can sell you a new main logic board
to fix the problem). It's possible that the problem is very simple, I've
seen iMacs that wouldn't connect to Ethernet because a phone cord
was accidentally plugged in, and it depressed one of the eight little gold
wires too much (the Ethernet plug has eight slots for the contact wires,
the phone plug has only six slots and it can bend up the two outer wires).

There's also a workaround, if you're running a sufficiently new OS; the TCP/IP
traffic can be routed to the Firewire (which, of course, means it will only
network to a second Firewire on a similarly config'ed Macintosh).
Go to System Preferences: Network:, show Network Port Configurations,
add Firewire, and select it.
