I'm having problems installing OpenServer 5.0.5 on a ML350 G3 Xeon machine. The boot from CD is fine, the loading of the BTLD (ad160) is fine, but as soon as the blue screen comes up and says "Starting Initial System Load from Floppy Disk" the process stops.
I use the next bootstrings with the EFS 5.64 Media:

boot:
mem=1m-16m
boot:
defbootstr link=ad160 hd=Sdsk Sdsk=ad160(0,0,0,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0)

All is OK until the message "Starting Initial System load from: Floppy Disk" in a blue screen and the instalation doesn't continue.

Thanks.

OpenServer 5.0.5 on a ML350 G3 Xeon machine
WARNING: On Xeon (or P4) machine you need at least RS506a and the best is 5.0.7.
You may damage your processor due to overtemperature.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Try increasing the amount of memory. 16 MB is the bottom of the barrel and just simply may not be enough. I know for a fact that you can't load from an integrated CD with any less than 48 MB (I've tried). Try beefing that up to 64 MB and see if it will go.

Also, the post by PHV is valid and should be considered if at all possible.

Good luck

JP

I don't think even 5.0.6a is an option on this machine....
we went from 5.0.5 to 5.0.7 when the g3's came out. 5.0.7 installs easily with or without a raid controller. if i remember correctly i couldn't get 5.0.6a to work, but it has been a while.
