Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a HP Deskjet 3822 printer which i have tried to install on my new Vista PC. I plug it in via USB cable and it runs trough the normal setup and tell me the printer is installed and ready to use.

However when i try print to it nothing happens. It is also set up as the default printer and the print spooler starts up automatically on boot up. I have check out the HP site for the latest driver and it tell me that all copies of Vista have to latest driver for it.

I have also tried using the old driver from the disk for XP and this does not work.

Has anybody got any sugestions ?

Many Thanks,

Richie.

Please check the driver installed for the printer.

Look under ports if there is a USB_DOT4_001 port or similar present and checked.

If there are other USB ports mentioned under ports, you could try and swap to one of these and see whether the job will print or not.

The same issues are seen when people try to install their HP laser printers.

I fear that the USB printer recognition of Vista still lacks quite a bit when it comes to HP printers.

HP does not have drivers ready for all printers yet nor are they going to but those that will be published will be out sometime prior to june/july.

After June/july do not expect to see that much development in HP PCL or PS drivers for printers as in the past because HP will step towards universal ptint driver solutions for the future.

Hi hpwizzard,

Thank you for your reply. I will try your suggestion and let you know how i get on.

I think your dead right about the USB printer recognition with Vista. I have heard quite a few people complaining about having problem.

Richie,
While looking over some other printer related issues with windows Vista recently, I found this document :
I know the DeskJet 3822 is not on the list, but the DeskJet 3820 must similar ?
Please give me feedback whether the suggested workaround is working for your printer as it might help me in my daily work also ! [wink]

Hi Hpwizzard,

I have had a look at the link you gave me and it does look like an interesting one alright. I will try the alternate driver for the Deskjet 3820 as you said since it must be similar to the 3822 and let you know how i get on. I am in work now so i will try it when i get home....Roll on home time !!!

Cheers,
Richie.

Hi Hpwizzard,

I had a look at your link and followed the steps for using an alternate driver. I used the deskjet 970cse driver for the 3820 and it does work for my printer the 3822. So happy days my printer is back working !!!

Thanks a million for your help.

Regards,
Richie.
