Hi All..
How to install Oracle 8i client in Win NT 2000 professional?
I tried

1. changing the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old and
2.Searched for \Install\WIN32 and tried to run the Setup.exe

which didnot work.

Please tell me other alternative if any..
Suggestions appreciated!!

Vishnu,

If you have access to metalink, refer to note 131299.1.

I am assuming that you have a Pentium 4 processor. If this is true, try the following :
1. Copy the contents of the installation cd to a temp. folder.
2. Search for all copies of the symcjit.dll and rename them.
3. Go to the \install directory and open the 'oraparam.ini' file for editing. Please note this file is write-protected.
4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again. Use the setup.exe in the temp. folder not in install directory.

Hope this helps

If your Windows 2000 ( not NT 2000, by the way)
PC has a Pentium 4 processor, search this forum for the workaround- it is a well known issue.

You can also search in the google newsgroups advanced search using comp.databases.oracle.* for 'Pentium 4' or 'Pentium IV'
and you will find out how to handle this.

The Oracle client 9.2 apparently does not have this problem so, if you can, you may want to move up to that version.
( it is backward compatible to releases 8.0.x and above of Oracle RDBMS)
