I am trying to add IIS 5.0 to my install of Windows 2000 professional. I understand that you need to go to add/remove programs or rerun the install disk. However, when I do this I get to a point where it asks me to locate a certain file "_vti_inf" on a disk called "Service Pack Files" I am unable to locate this disk or file. Does anyone know what disk they are referring to? I am using the MSDN disks for my installation and all I have is the Win 2000 disk(all versions) and then the Service Packs 1 & 2. Thank you very much for your assistance

I solved the problem with the help of the microsoft newsgroups and microsoft support staff. These are the steps I took to fix the problem. I think it was asking for the "service pack files" because I had already installed service pack one on the machine.

1) Find the Windows 2000 SP1 CD, run the SP1 .exe file to extract the files into a temporary directory. NOTE: do not install the Service Pack. When the files were extracted they were stored in a temp directory on C:/temp/<dir>. Find this directory and copy all the contents into another temporary directory. Cancel the SP1 installation; this eliminates the original copy of files.
2) Now follow the original 4 steps above except when the installation is looking for “_vti_inf.htm” point it to your temp directory for SP1. You may have to manually point to one more file at this point in the installation. The installation will be looking for “convlog.exe” but the actual file is called “convlog.ex”.
3) After the installation process uses whatever files it needed in the SP1 temp directory you created you will be prompted for the “Windows 2000 Professional” disk. Insert the disk and point it to the proper file.
4) The installation should be complete. You can delete your temp directory for service pack 1.
