The drive in question is a WD 60 GB formatted with fat 32 with PM'
the Promise card is installed and working properly as it's shown in DM,
and here is my problem:
After installing my WD-60 drive (not jumpered) and cabled with a brand new cable to the controller card. But when I boot the card don't see the now connected drive,
and it won't complete the boot to windows.
Then if I jump it to CS, it recognize the drive as my WD-60,
and in both instances there is a massage about the BIOS not being installed (sorry I don't recall the exact massage), and it won't complete the boot also.
Ps:
There is nothing wrong with the WD-60 I've tested it, and it's working just fine, and the Rig boots without a problem when the WD-60 is disconnected.

THIS IS MY HARDWARE
Asus A7N8X De LUXE-V2
AMD ATHLON XP 2600+ FSB 333
PAIR OF KINGSTON DDR 256MB PC2700-333 MHZ
PSU- THERMALTAKE WOOO9R 420WATTS DUAL FAN
GRAPHIC -ATI RADEON 9700\9500- 128 MB
HDD-1 WESTERN DIGITAL 40 GB 2MB CASHE slave, for Ghosted files,Programme photos and stuff
HDD-2 WESTERN DIGITAL 80 GB 8MB CASHE Master Partitioned, running W2k and WXP Pro in a dual boot canfig
SONY DRU510A DVD BURNER slave.
SONY DDU1621 DVD READER master.
CONTROLLER-PROMISE ULTRA 133 TX2.
RUNNING WIN 2k Pro and Win XP pro.
I've never worked with a controller card before, obviously I must be missing a step, or two, in configuring this thing. I thought that maybe one must change the jumper setting on the other two drives. Well what should I really do to install this drive correctly
. Thx.

Are your trying to boot off the WD 60 connected to the Promise card? If yes, then you may need to alter the main mobo BIOS to boot from SCSI rather IDE.

You say you altered the jumpering on the WD 60 to CS. What was it set to before?

The message about the "BIOS not being installed" suggests the Promise card may not be working properly. Can you get any other hard disks to work successfully with this card?

Does this mobo have a raid interface, and can it be disabled?

I'm pleased you're out of trouble but please don't leave us dangling! What did you do to fix it?

Best regards,

Pete W.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs - you haven't seen the latest Change Note!

After trying to fix the problem with several methods of testing and all failed, the last try was to change the slot that the card was in, and unjumping the drive, and that did it the drive was instantly recognized

Promise cards tend not to play nice in PCI slot 1 (location on individual boards vary, check your manual). If you are having a similar problem, just move your card to a different PCI slot. Another common problem with Promise cards is that they do not play nice with USB keyboards and mice, because they have KB and mouse support in their BIOS. Hope this info is helpful.

I have not had jobtz problem with USB keyboard or mice, but the slot assignment is important. As far from your video card as possible.

But:

. prior to intalling Windows, use the Promise site for the newest drivers. Do not depend on the driver set included with Win2k or XP or whatever. Download and expand to floppy the newest drivers.

Use the option during setup to install SCSI or RAID drivers and point to the new drivers.

I have a RAID 5 system running under XP Pro.

I have the following configuaration:-

Asus A7N8X (not deluxe version)
2 EIDE 80 Gb drives
4 RAID 5 Drives on a Promise supertack contoller card.
This provides multiple boot options and the ability to store backups on the removable EIDE drives in case the RAID fails.
When installing XP on the RAID drive it asks you to press F6 for other SCSI or RAID drivers. You then install the card drivers from a floppy.

The only thing is to ensure that your MB does NOT have a RAID 0 /1 contoller chipser (which many now do - I think your deluxe version does) otherwise there is likely to be a conflict.

Took me ages and many trial set up configurations to get this info from Promise.

Hope this helps.

The advice to stay out of the way from the display card, is good a idea,
a lot of folks disregard this and run into trouble,
in my rig I keep the slot bellow the card always empty, As far as the Promise card is in concern,
since I resolved the "problem" the thing is running smooth, actually this adapter is known to quite reliable and easy to install. Bernard you've got yourself a nice setup, what kind of display card are you using...
