Hi,
I'm sure this is a really simple problem to resolve, but I'm having trouble installing FPW26. The company I now work for, used to develop in Foxpro, we're now .NET based. In the past I've had to deal with customer issues for applications developed on VFP6-9 and have had no issues installing those development platforms.

We've recently had a request from a customer who are using an application built on foxpro2.6 to update some of their reports. They have no intention of upgrading so not an option.

I've managed to find a FPW26 folder on one of the retired servers and am sure that this is the FP2.6 windows development platform installation folder but I can't figure out the install steps. There's a DKSETUP Folder in which contains a SETUP.exe but when I run this it complains about not finding FOXPRONT.FO_ in DISK1. Ive renamed DKSETUP to DISK1 and now the setup.exe runs and it creates a directory which contains an INSTALL.EXE file.

I copy this install file to the FPW26 folder as it complains about not finding library files. When I run the install.exe, it launches the development tool (or what I think is the dev tool) but there is an error message saying "file not found" and when i click anywhere on the the window it crashes.

I ran the patch 26 exe in case it was the overflow issue that was causing the problem but it made no difference.

I am trying to install this on an XP machine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Richy

I've just done a LIST FILES LIKE *.* TO temp.txt from my FPW26 install and got this listing:

PSSQA.TXT README.TXT RESERVED.FLL SPELLCHK.APP TRANSPRT.PRG

Are you seeing much the same files?

Hi Geoff,

thanks for your reply.

What should the FPW26 Install folder look like before you run any install? I would like to know if I am starting in the correct place.

The FPW26 folder that I found contains all those files (bar FPW26.LNK) and a lot more too.

The folder contains DKSAMPLE, DKSETUP (changed to DISK1), DKWIZARD, FOXAPP, GOODIES, LANGUAGE, SAMPLE, TUTORIAL, WIZARDS folders also.

I'm trying to figure out what steps I need to take to install the development platform correctly.

If I had it on the orignal (Disk I presume) what would the Install folder contain before running the install, what executables must I run and what should my Install folder contain after the installation?

Thanks in advance
Richy

It doesn't matter. You just drop all the FPW files into an empty folder and it'll work. There aren't any outside dependencies.

Hi Geoff,

thanks again for your feedback. I've managed to figure out that running FOXPROW.exe launches the correct Interface.

I've been able to open reports and edit them. I just need to check if they are working correctly in the original application.

regards
Richy
