I have a hard drive I took out of an older computer, it contains a lot of data I can use. Is there a way I can install it as an extra HD in my computer? Thank's

codyscott4,

Information such as the drive size, type, manufacturer, model, and other system items would be helpful for a more consise answer.

In general, YES, you can install this drive as a second hd in another system.

The other system will have to have a position that this can be installed in, the correct cabling and so forth.

You will have to determine the drive setting (master/slave/single) of the second drive and the main drive in the system that you intend to install this in. This is to insure that the settings are correct to support two drives.

Hope This Helps

Sorry, should have included that.

It's not big, just has data I need.

Seagate, Model: ST3243A

214 MB

Thank You

codyscott4,

If you have the Segate "SeaTools" application load it and enter the drive mdl and it will list the settings. do the same for the main drive (Type?) and again make sure the settings are correct for two drives.

Main should be set to master and the Segate to slave Many drive of late have this info printed on the drive label.

Make sure the master drive is on the last connector and the slave is on the center connector and cable is connected to the mobo(longest cable side connects to mobo) and boot to your BIOS config screen. You should see both drives. Boot to the OS and you should be able to access the additional drive and its' contents.

If you don't have SeaTools get them here:

SeaTools
