Hello.

I wanted to Setup Exchange 5.5 on a NT 4 server box without any domain to use Calender use only. The client PCs are in a workgroup and are Windows NT 4 workstation with Outlook 2000. I wanted to know if this is possible and if it is can anyone tell me what to do. I heard that you need to install Exchange in a domain which I dont want to do. I am MCSE 4 and MCSE 2000 certified but not Exchange. I will be doing Exchange 2000 tough.. I was asked to setup Exchange server so that we can use the calender feature of outlook 2000. The only option I have right now is to install Exchange on a Win NT 4 Server box in a workgroup invernoment. We use Novell server to login.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks.

You need a domain, it will not run under local accounts.
If you are going to migrate to Exchange 2000, you may want to look at the bigger picture. Instead of thinking about ex 5.5 and user account on an nt4.0 domain and how to migrate them to 2000 as well as the mailboxes you just set up. I would concentrate on the 2000 components. Plan on getting your novell environment over to 2000, install exchange 2000 and create mailboxes. The calendaring will take care of itself.

If I create a domain and and creat accts on the domain do the users have to login to the domin or they can stay in a workgroup and just change setting in Outlook 2000. I know you have to login to a domain ...I am just asking to be sure. Since i don t know much about Exchange and Outlook..yet..

Thanks

You can set up outlook to prompt you for the credentials.
When you set up an Outlook profile you will see Microsoft Exchange server, click the properties of the Microsoft Exchange server, advanced and on the bottom for Logon Network Security type choose none. This will bring up a logon box for Outlook. Username, password and domain.
