I am attempting to install exchange 2003 on a brand new machine (server 2003) and connect it to a domain controller running on a windows 2000 server.

We are unable to run the forest prep and have been stuck for 3 days with no clue as to the problem. We have made numerous attempts and have had several people give insight, but still nothing.

I can provide logs as needed if anyone can help out with this.

Chris

Well, 'some' indication of what went wrong where may help.
Errors, Events, whatever as like this, it would just be a shot in the dark.

Marc
If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all.

Hi,

Have you connected your machine into your domain. If not you would need to do that first.

Also, make sure prior to run forest Prep to be a member of the following group :

- Enterprise admin
- Schema Admin

Running the "run set up now" will also install automattically Forest Prep and Domain Prep as well

Hope this help

Start the setups as Administrator, not a user with full admin rights to see if that gives you better results.

I was logged in as admin and it failed...both on the exchange box and the DC.

I will try to put together some event logs...

Chris -

Have you run DCDIAG and NETDIAG? If so, please post those results here so that I may read them.

it failed" provides us with NO information. Please be more informative, including exact text of an errors (after you've googled it), and any related event entries in the logs, after you've checked them at

Sorry I was a little vague in the very first post. I think I followed up with enough information though.

I did notice some failures in there. I am not familiar with the DCDIAG too much, but I am going to go through it and figure out as much of it as I can.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

After reviewing this thread again I also realized that an earlier post I made about the actual error I am getting is not in the thread...that might be some of the confusion.

I am getting the error stating that I do not have permission to update the AD Schema or the server is too busy.

As stated above I am a member of the appropriate groups and have full admin rights.

I am installing the software on server 2003 and the DC is server 2000 (sp4).

Sorry about mot getting that info up earllier. I just noticed it didn't post.

Chris
