I have prepared a new win2k server and when I install Exchange 2000 from the Cd I get this error saying

Multiple components cannot be assigned the requested action because :

you must be an Exchange Full Administrator to run set up. You must use an account that has been granted full Exchange Administrator role using the Exchange Administrative Delegation wizard.
The component Microsoft Exchange Foresr Preparation cannot be assignedthe action Install because "either you do not have permission to update the Active directory schema or Active Directory service is currently too busy.

I have administrative rights, I am a member of the domain admins...

Please help me to solve this problem....

thank-you

The account used for the install also needs 'Schema Admin' rights. Also did you run 'Domain Prep' and 'Forest Prep' prior to running setup?

hello,

thank-you for your reply. Can you please guide me on to how do I get Schema Admin Rights and if you know of a link.

thnak-you again

sailesh

Schema Admins should be listed as a Windows 2000 Security Group. Simply add it to the install user just as you would any other group membership.

thank-you very much I am going to give it a go and let you know the outcome....

thanks again for all your help !

hello again....

The Schema Admins works .. no problem. I am now installing Forest prep and it comes up with this error

The component "Microsoft Exchange Forest Preparation" cannot be assigned the action "Forest Prep" because :
you must be an Exchange Full Administrator to run set up. You must use an account that has been granted full Exchange Administrator role using the Exchange Administrative Delegation wizard.

I am getting there with your help...so please guide me what to do next...

thanks very much

sailesh

Sailesh, I just checked my notes and the account used for the installation also needs to be a member of the 'Enterprise Admins' group. Try that and give it another try and let me know what happens.

Bill,

I have done what you suggested and it works.. so am installing forest prep and domain prep and hopefully I shall install Exchange 2000.

I really want to thank you for all your help and do you have an email address where maybe I can email you if I encounter any more problems in the future.

Thankyou

sailesh

sailesh

Have a look here, it is about migrating, but the setup is in there too, step by step : faq858-3483

Hello,

We have an Exchange 2000 environment. we have configured 1 Routing group for all three sites (HOUSTON, LONDON, and BOMBAY) to use.

As it stands right now, whenever Bombay sends an email to the internet, it goes to Houston (London if Houston is not available) to be processed and sent. This is due to the fact that the Internet gateway servers (bridgehead servers) are HOUSTON EX3 and LONDON EX1. This causes unnecessary traffic between Bombay and Houston. Is there another way to do this so that if Bombay sends internet emails, the system uses the Bombay server to process and send.

YOUR RESPONSE ON THIS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

regards,

Sailesh
