Hello,

I am trying to install Cognos 8.4. I already have SQL Server 2005 up and running. I am also using Apache 2.2. I am using Windows XP, Service pack 3. The issue I am having is when I get to the Content Store piece of the Content Manager, Cognos is unable to find my database in SQL Server. I believe that SQL Server is using Windows Authentication to logon, which is why I chose "Microsoft SQL Server database (Windows Authentication)" for the Content Store in Cognos. I have attached a screen capture of my Content Store settings. When I try to test my Cognos connection, I am receiving the following errors: [ ERROR ] The database connection failed.
[ ERROR ] Content Manager is unable to access the content store. Verify your database connection parameters, and then contact your database administrator for assistance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!!

In look around this forum, I saw one person say that, "The account that you use to access the Cognos content store should have the rights to the SQL server instance and have read properties to the database." My question is, how do I set this up?

What do you use to acces SQL server with?
I would make sure SQL server is running in mixed mode, then create a database login for cognos and make sure it is mapped to the content store. It should have the role of db_owner to create the set of cognos content tables when starting cognos for the first time

In Cognos Configuration, right click, delete content store. Right click->add database, choose MS SQL Server (Windows authentication). Start service (windows services) as the user once you register it.
