Is it possible to install the SMS client as a package? The "push" technique is not working for me.

There is no way of installing the SMS client as a SMS package. That's putting the cart before the horse. Packages are only pushed to SMS clients therefore if there is no client it can't receive the package.

You could push the package using another method such as AD or a third party package then use SMS to manage. What problems are you having with the client push?

Don't know...I can see all of my computers in the collections, but just cannot push the client to them. I went through the wizard and it didn't work. I've manually installed the client (client.msi) to one of my machines and that worked fine. How would you do it in AD?

Check out this article supplied by tbrennans,

Hopefully that will get you started in the right direction.

As far as pushing apps via AD/Group Policy, I've never done it myself. I've just heard the SMS detractors mention it. Do a google for 'pushing applications group policy'. That brings up several links.

In case you're still looking for the answer...
To install client.msi in AD, go to AD-users/computers, right click server, properties, then select group policy tab. highlight default domain policy and choose edit, under computer config, select software settings, and under software installation is where you want to place the client.msi. After all your installs are done, you'll want to remove this, as it will install every startup otherwise.
