Is it possible to control where the data files are stored?

Yes. You can change the folder or even the drive (if you have multiple drives in the server computer). You cannot have the database files stored on another server though. The reason for this is that the SQL Server service kicks in when the server is shutdown so that it can cleanly close the database files (to avoid corruption). When the database files are on another server, the network could go down or the server with the database files could go down. Both of these things could cause major problems for your database.

Thanks, do you know where to change the drive/folder?
