Guys, Recently I revived and old E20 box we werent used.
My idea is to install AIX 5 on it.
It's got no video board so all i could do was plug a serial cable to my laptop.

When i turn on the server, instead showing the "intro screen" and give me the option to alter the boot sequence to load from the CDROM, it just stays blank, after it starts loading the Opsys, and of course, it's too late now.

Could it be the serial cable I use?
Any ideas?

PS: by the way, the op sys never finishes loading and I never get a prompt, so it's imperative that I make the server boot from the CDs.

Thanks for your help

What a pity!
E20 usually equip with 64 or 128MB in my image.
But, AIX5.1 need 512MB memory to run (or 256MB? if I am wrong,PLS tell me).
If your E20 do not has enough memory, try AIX 4.3.3.

I have a E30 with 64 meg of ram and I loaded AIX 5.1 on it. I used a IBM3153 console to load the system and had no problem. Boot with CD #1 in the CDROM and select 5 when keyboard is loading. Then follow prompts.

yeah i know AIX 5.1 works cos someone installed it before on that box.
Anyways
the problem I have is the terminal never displays anything before it's loading the opsys and thats too late.
I get no message before like the IBM AIX and those.

Thanks

I finally got it working.
It seems there was no software error.
I used a PC-modem cable to connect the terminal and It worked fine.

Thanks
