I'm installing a hard drive, how do I backup the information on my old hard drive?

Are you looking to backup the entire contents of your hard drive or individual personal files?
Depending on your answer, there are a number of ways to back up you data/hard drive. If it's your ENTIRE drive (if you want your new hard drive to look exactly like your soon-to-be old one) you can "clone" it using either Symantec Ghost or PowerQuest DriveImage Pro. If it's just individual files, a few CD-Rs OR a Zip drive (if you have one) ought to do the trick

I am interested in this thread because I want to transfer data from a HDD with win98 to another HDD with win2000pro. The point being that I want to upgrade a computer that I just installed a Maxtor 40gig that I also loaded win2000pro with all the files and settings on the earlier HDD win98 computer - copying these files. If anyone can give me the steps I will greatly appreciate it.

Whatisme - you'd be better with a new thread. Also can you clarify what you have got now/want to have - you have a disk with win98 on? and another with win2k on? So you can just copy data from one to the other (mount as masterand slave in same machine). But I'm not sure this is what you want - so please do clarify.
