I was installing a 5si for a client to use as a personal printer. Windows boots up fine until the printer cable is attached, then everything locks up. remove the cable from the printer and win2k works normally.
if i plug it in then start the computer windows only loads about 50-60% according to the blue progress bar.. then just cycles endlessly with no mouse/keyboard available.
This is on a compaq P3 650Mhz with 256MB RAM. My guess is its out of resources.. if so I'll have to set it up as a network printer I guess..

I am using a Networked HP 5SI. When printing Forms or Form Letters, Approach97 will crash with a dump. Same thing happens using a Networked HP LaserJet 5M. My Approch97 Version is 7.0.0.0 .
Is there a fix? Also when using a Local HPOfficeJet G85xi it will print forms sometimes and sometimes it will not and crash with a dump. Thxs, Gary

nlm9802 : Try check with another cable and also check the status of the parallel port. Try booting Windows into safe mode and verify parallel port is present or reinstall driver for the parallel port. I asume the printque is clear. Eventually try printer with another PC.
