Installed win server 2k3 - now what?

Hi everybody!

Today I installed win server 2k3 and played with it

But now I want to get down to business and in my mind I know how I want it to be.

Something like:

At my mother's place I want to have a ctrl+alt+delete system (i.e. using domain) so that the desktop and all files can be accessed for each computer. I also want to be able to access a public folder ("images"). The folder is located on the same server.

At my father's place, I want it to be the same but I want to connect to the network at my mother's.

What shall I do and what should I think about?

There are four computers at my mother's place, two xp home (I know, no domain here), one xp pro and one macbook pro.

At my father's place I only have one computer with xp pro installed.

Yes, Trevatwork is correct - without a VPN between the 2 sites, you're going to have some security issues, etc.

Okay, so I'm going to install VPN, print server (I need it) and file sharing? Nothing else? I looked at something called terminal service (or something like that). Do I need that? Also, is DNS and DHCP something for me to look at?

You probably should start by heading down to the bookstore and picking up a copy of Windows 2003 Server.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

I agree with Dave. You need to start with some reading material and then start from a specific problem you want to solve. There are many alternatives for anything you want to do. Setting up a multi-site domain as you are describing may be really over-kill for printing and file sharing. That can all be done without a domain controller or a Windows server.

Hmm... Maybe I'm taking water over my head. Do you think this would work with just a file sharing server (running debian or ubuntu)?

Then I can have my webserver on that too.

I don't know about printing services on those O/S cores. Perhaps you can post your question in one of the LInux forums?
