Ive installed vmware workstation, and it installed halfway, by halfway i mean, my vista home premium machine had a memory dump right in the middle of the installation, so the system files are there, but theyre nowheres in my add/remove programs. so ive deleted the system files, deleted the network adapters it installed out of device manager, and now ive still got a red x on my network connection icon...

does anyone know if there is an unistaller? or what the hell should i do here?

vista doesnt even have system restore turned on for me to restore back to a time when it DID work...and turning it on seems tricky.

please let me know if more information is needed.

thanks

Does it have any Uninstall in its folder on the Start Menu or in the Programs Files folder?

Is there an uninstall string in HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\Vmware (or similar)?

As you don't have System Restore points, you could try the System File Checker program.

How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista

Installing and reinstalling Windows

Too late now for this.

To turn System Protection on or off for a particular disk see Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System.

In the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.

To turn off System Protection for a hard disk, clear the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.

You might consider implementing some type of Backup regime for future disasters?

Although unsupported Virtual PC 2007 seems to run on Premium.

Virtual PC 2007 too good for Home Premium?

Virtual PC 2007 (it's free)

yeah, see i installed it... and midway through vista gave me a memory dump...so i guess it didnt install me an uninstaller???

anyways, yeah i have tried virtual pc and the thing is i had an image of apple osx and i wanted to try it with vmware since virtual pc doesnt seem to take my .img file.

i am at work right now linney, but when i get back home ill try and look through my registry for that string and see what i can do there.

but mainly my network card will not work. now i have tried reinstalling it again and it did install...however i uninstalled it it still didnt allow me to get on the internet.

im thinking reinstalling vista is the way to go. ive backed up everything so why not!

thanks again!

Try this command from the Administrator's Command Prompt if there appears to be nothing physically wrong with your Network Card and you just mean that you are unable to get an Internet Connection?

Netsh Winsock Reset

That will reset things back to the default winsock settings.

that didnt seem to work...maybe i didnt run my cmd in admin.

i just went ahead and had everything backed up and i re-installed vista with no problems...now everything is running realll smooth. didnt take me but 30/45 minutes to install everything i wanted and get the os on the drive.

linney i really appreiciate the effort man! thanks again bro.
