When I install postgresql, I got the message "no mapping between user names and secuirty IDs", so I can not install the server. Maybe the problem came from more than one unsucceeded installations. After removed the system, the problem always came out. Any help will be appreciated.

on what platform, which version, and when do you get this message

It is on Windows XP. The PostgreSQL version is 8.0.1. Thanks for help.

Actually the problem starts from Service Configuration panel when the installation goes there. I select "Install as a service". The Service Name is "PostgreSQL Database Server 8.0". Account Name is "postgres". I fill the Account Domain and password then click "Next" button, a new panel with message: "xxx(domainName)/xxx(accountName) was not found. Would you like the account to be created for you?" shows up. I click "Yes", a new message panel with the message: "The password you specified weak. Would you like the installer to replace it with a random password?" shows up. I click "Yes" button, a new panel created a very long random password shows up. I click "Yes", then will get the message: "Internal account lookup failure. No mapping between user names and secuirty IDs." Then nothing I can do. Because the installation does not complete so no any configuration files created in the system.

try to see if there is already an account named postgres if there is one (check if there is nothing important for it) and delete it ....

that's all I can say :-(
