Hi all,

I'm quite new in AIX an trying to get this machine up and running.

After Installation the ystem reboots automatically and shows the login without starting the config, so there's no way to login.
Basically I'm running into the same issue as described in thread 52-546612.

Can someone help. please?

Thanks
Andreas

What did you do? fresh install? update? from CDs/DVD? from mksysb?

If fresh install from CDs/DVD you can log in with root, no password - I'd set that first... In fact you'll be prompted to 1) accept licenses 2) configure the system (a.o. set root's password, configure TCPIP, ...) after logging in with root.

Hi p5wizard,

I did a fresh install (overwrite) from CD.

After installation and reboot the system shows the login prompt, but regardless what I type, the login screen comes again.
I never got the license and the configure screen.

Andreas

Are you using an early release of AIX53? If so, I'd suggest you try a more recent copy. Or try to install from an mksysb/mkcd of another system perhaps?

HTH,

It's 5.1.0 and it's the only software available. It's also the only machine we have.....and I've got no idea what mksysb/mkcd is.
Is the OS downloadable somewhere or do we have to purchase?

Andreas

OS can only be purchased.

5.1 is now out of (IBM) support. But nothing wrong with it if you don't need IBM support.

What level of 5.1 are you trying to install? please post all the information you have, i.e. all the information on the CD.

What console do you have? Graphics, laptop and a serial cable, etc.

When you say "shows the login without starting the config" please state exactly what the last few lines of the display show.

Have you checked and updated the system firmware?

It's 5.1.0, the CD is "AIX 5L for POWER V5.1 5765-E61, 04/2001 Volume 1 of 5.

I'm accessing the system via serial and ASCII.

Here's the output after reboot:
AIX Version 5
(C) Copyrights by IBM and by others 1982, 2000.
Console login:
Regardless what you type, after hitting enter this output comes again.

Firmware has been updated recently, it's TCP05287 now.

Try and disconnect the serial connector and reconnect after the boot finishes?

Or press ctrl-D to recycle the tsm/getty/login process chain on /dev/console. I've seen stuff like this also on reboot of a server or partition, but I've always had a telnet capability into the server so I wasn't too worried about it...

I'm accessing the system via serial and ASCII"

Via a PC and terminal emulator or do you have an ASCII dumb terminal?

I seem to remember a problem with hyperterminal on early win2k that behaved like this.

Regardless what you type, after hitting enter this output comes again.

What have you tried? Did you try "root" as the username and then hit enter without entering a password at the password prompt?

Regards,
Chuck

I'm using Hyperterminal in XP SP2.

Yes, I tried root. As I said, the screen always shows "Console login:"
After typing "root" and pressing enter, the same screen comes up again, no password questions, no chance to enter a password

Andreas

Did you try to unplug and replug the serial cable at the B50 end, AFTER the login prompt appears at the end of the boot sequence?
