Guys,
I need to install XP Pro on XP Home edition. can anyone advise me how to do a safe installation of XP Pro. Is it better to uninstalll XP Home first. or Is it ok to install XP Pro on top of XP home. Point me in the right direction. what is your opinion about doing this?

DilSe..

What you never want to do is an upgrade. Always select the "Clean Install" option. Try loading the XP Pro but if it does not give you a clean install option then I would remove home edition first.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Hey the easies way is to clean install windows xp
when you insert the disk restart the computer and boot from the cd... then you have the option to install cleanly... delete the old partion and install on the blank drive thats the best way

Home and Pro are so similar that it probably doesn't matter whether you clean install or upgrade. It is up to you whether you want a fresh start or not.

One thing to watch out for (if you upgrade) is whether Home is at SP2 but any Pro CD is SP1. This can be circumvented by slipstreaming SP2 into the CD.

Also remember you have the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard available if you require it.

You can always try a REPAIR Install... this removes the older (Home vers.) files from the HD but keeps most of the Registry intact, before it installs the files from the Pro Version...

Slipstreaming the SP2 is a good idea here...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...
