I have a digicam and i lost the driverCD. when i browsed in the internet, it gave me a result, a driver for the USB, nothing more. I was able to download and install the said USB driver. The problem is, it says that there is no digicam or scanner attached to the PC, but when i installed it earlier, the Digicam is detected. Furthermore, the digicam is not seen in the device manager, imaging device. considering that i was able to install the USB driver for it and no other drivers were referred. Thank you in advance for the help that will be extended.

DIgicam is: SOny Cybershot dsc-p50

Now that the software is installed, unplug the digicam and plug it back in to see if the computer recognizes "new jardware".

Yes it recognizes but will not install anymore programs since the USB device has already been installed. :(

yeah...downloaded the file but still having the same problem..

I presume you installed both files. I just checked on my Gateway DV-520. It doesn't show in Device Manager or Control Panel either. I'm running XP, so I just plug the USB cable in and XP "auto-opens" the "download pictures" screen opens.

well as for my case...it USB gets installed well but I just dont understand why it says that it has no camera or scanner attached when in fact the driver has already been installed and working properly. This is the first time i got this kind of problem in a PC.considering the CAM expensive... its irritating i cant download the photos in the camera, especially this time of year...lots of pictures to take since its christmas time.:)

After you plug the camera in, do you turn the power on? My "auto-detect" doesn't start until the camera is on.

1. Plug the USB cable in.
2. Plug the cable into the camera.
3. Turn on the camera.

What OS are you using?

Yes..i turn on the CAM and detects the camera and installs itself..I am using win98SE. I did what you said..still no effect. :(

You say it installs itself. Exactly what indication do you get that it is installed? If you get the "new hardware found" icon, you should then be able to go into Windows Explorer and find it as a "removable disk". If so, open that drive and see if you can read anything. Is this a known good USB port? Can you try a different camera > USB cable?

the indication that i get the hardware installed is that, on the lowerrightmost side on my PC, on the system tray, there is a new hardware found. also the USB can be seen on the device manager. so i thought that the CAM is already installed.I cannot try another CAM since there are no other available, second this CAM cost a lot..its around 30,000 pesos in our place when it was bought..are there other solutions?, there is no "removable disk" seen on windows explorer.

Hook everything like it's supposed to work. Wait for "New hardware found" icon appears. Do you get a "Safely remove hardware" icon? If so, left click on the icon and see what USB items are listed. Mainly, look for your camera or video device. Post back on whether you find it or not.

Newer Sony Digicams are USB 2.0 compliant, and often simply will not accept a USB 1.x connection.

You can try adjusting the USB type on the camera itself to a different mode. They often support at least two modes, and the "normal" mode will only be accepted with a true USB 2.0 port.

Bill:
Good comment. I saw "but when i installed it earlier, the Digicam is detected." in the first post, and have been looking for a repair solution.

MarQ:
Question - did this ever work on this computer (before you lost the CD)?

All,

I took several approaches to this in thread779-737278
and several others offered even more valuable help.

I am not sure how applicable this is for a Win9x setting, but the thread seems on point.

best,
Bill Castner

micker377,...forgive me for my very very very very very stupid, dumb and worst mistake i made that troubled you..lately i remembered that my friend borrowed the CAM and when she returned it, she did not put back the memory stick...so definitely there will be no pictures to download...am very very sorry for the trouble i gave you...i am very very thankful that you have been with me for the week helping and giving those efforts..thank you very very much.help was very much appreciated..again thank you for the help..and sorry for the trouble... :(

It's OK - we've all been there! I once re-installed my audio drivers for a "no sound" problem. After fighting it for awhile, found that my sound was "muted"! "Forest and trees" problem <grin>. It's a computer, so the problem MUST be complex - we often ignore the simple things. Glad you got it fixed.

Just thought of something - both of my digital cameras have built in memory which is over-ridden by the memory cards. Does your camera have any "base" memory?

i never seen one..all i know is that it has an SDRAM of 4MB and is upgradeable to 32MB i think or more. what base memory are you asking? what is the use for it?

Base" memory is what the camera uses when there is no memory stick plugged in. It works just like a stick, but not as large. My Mustek has 4meg, and my Gateway has 8meg. See if you can take a picture without the memory plugged in. It will work normally, or you will get an error saying something about no memory installed. This is for future reference if you need to get "one more picture", and the mem stick/card is full.
