Hello all!
I was hoping someone here could help me out. Im a complete linux newbie, and am very much looking forward to learning linux! I was told that linux MANDRAKE is a good place to begin. I got everything I need, and began the installation (after doing some partitioning of my drive with partition magic.) During Mandrakes automated installation process, the same error occurs several times. The error is something to the effect of "Could not install this package (file name)" and than it asks "go on anyway?" and I select yes. The error popped up about 7 to 10 times on MINIMAL install. Did I just get a bad image or something? I let the installation continue to the end. I can select at bootup if I would like to boot to windows or linux. Upon booting to linux, a command prompt syle display comes up and says "Enter Runlevel" and I can do nothing further. Is this normal, or has the OS been botched by the installation errors? Any advice would be most useful. Thanks in advance.

for easily of use and to move to liunx easly go with caldera edesktop 2.4 just install but for your problemit sounds like you are miss some packets it hard to say which ones but it sound like a few. try redownloading it or take the cd back if you bought it and get a new one So long and thanks for all the fish.

I have had this when the partition onto which linux is being installed becomes full. This means that some of the packages couldn't be installed and are missed off. It can also cause un 'unclean' installation and leave you unable to boot the OS.

How big is the partition into which you are trying to instal? I would recommend about 500MB unless youa re trying to instal absolutely everything.

You should have a swap partition of 2xRAM and a root partition of 500MB or more unless you know exactly what you want to instal and select the packages manually. You can save alot of space by not installing all the foreign language documentation. The more you install the bigger the partition required.

Mandrake is a great OS so don't fret about not having Caldera.

Good Luck
