Hi,

We've been trying to rebuild a CW2K workstation on Win2K, we install everything (with some difficulty)but it wont start the ANI Database. We've gone through all the suggestions on the Cisco web site but cant get anywhere. Any clues???

Hi,

Built a few CW2k systems on various platforms and the best recommendation I can offer is RTFM...then RTFM again...then check what you've got with what the manual says.

Don't install ANY SP's other than those listed in the release notes and certainly don't install any security fixes early on.

Install the CW2k components and check operation after each one is installed. Might be worth installing CD One then Campus and testing ANI starts. Install RME then check it can pull configs and that Campus can still discover etc.

If this doesn't work then install all current, relevant Cisco CW2k patches and try again. In my experience, if you're still having problems at this stage then you'll need to raise a TAC case since you really shouldn't be having problems.

Once it's working OK, look to apply MS hotfixes and security patches etc. BUT MAKE BACKUPS AS YOU GO, since I've had some hot fixes end up breaking more than they fix :) ...but on other servers they've been fine.

I've had ANI problems due to installing LMS and ITEM on the same box (not supported!) and where SP3 was used instead of SP2. This is usually the case with OEM Win2k CD's as supplied by Dell etc. that are Win2k plus a service pack; although it's not obvious this is the case until after installation. Try using a plain old vanilla Win2k CD, and then SP it as required. This has worked OK on Dell HP/Compaq and some Bull/NEC servers.

Other servers have worked fine with SP3, even though not officially supported on LMS2.1 at the time. It's a voyage of discovery.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you....
