Install win2k pro on a dual processor server box 3

I am thinking of using an old dell poweredge 2600 server I no longer use which has NT 4.0 on it. Can I remove NT4.0 and format the drives and reinstall with win2k pro and use it as a workstation. My concern is can Win2k pro install and manage a box with dual processors.

Hi !
That should not be a problem if the acpi bios reports
to w2k install dual processors
so the the right hal and kernal files is installed
(multiprocessor) during setup.
And yes W2K Pro works with two processors .

Windows 2000 Professional:
supports single and dual CPU systems.

Windows 2000 Server:
supports up to four CPUs .

Windows 2000 Advanced Server:
supports up to eight CPUs .

I'm sure it can. I just set up an old server for a friends daughter running dual 266 PII's / 256Mb with a pair of 4.3 hdd's. That sucker just flew with 2k pro/98se dual boot and is more suited as a server than a workstation.

Likely cost someone $15-20k when new.

Try asking the 2k forum. It depends on the OS not the hardware.
