When installing software or adding services on any terminal server with Metaframe 1.8 or XP do I need to place the server into instll mode. Unsure for apps that will not be published to users like Virus software.Cheers

You alway need to put your TerminalServers in InstallMode when you install applications so all setting are proprely written to registry also for not-published apps. It is always possible to logon to the console and start apps. When you use add/remove programs the server will be set to install mode

hi,
about services started with SYSTEM logon probably you can are right, but the mechanism of registry coping between Install mode and Execute is almost complicated and in the doubt, is better if you use classic way (install/execute)

Regard applications (no services) also if not pubblished,
they will be executed by an user also if is is an admin:
local Administrator or Admin or domain\superAdmin are different users and for each of them, TS will be copyes of registry 1st time they logon on the server. For these appl.
sure they go installed by classic way.

bye
